============================================== PrehKeyTec devices MCI 111 and ML 2 OCR (Passport) Reader Module "P3" 3M CR100 Drivers V2.07.3 INSTALLATION Notes June 24 2015 ============================================== Attention: The drivers for OCR module P3 are not intended for using them with the "A"(Airline) variants MCI 111 A / ML 2 A! Airline variants are equipped with OCR module P2/P4 - "CheckinPackage" automatically installs all necessary drivers. 1. INSTALLATION ============================================== Installation can be done in two different ways described below. You should prefer the preinstall method - as usual, it needs to be done before(!) connecting the hardware. 1.1 Automatic (Pre)Install of P3 Drivers ---------------------------------------- - Run the script "Install_Driver.cmd" (using Administrator privileges) - Simply follow the DriverInstaller dialogues. - Finally, 3 devices should be (pre)installed for the OCR module P3. - After finishing driver installation, you may connect the hardware. - Windows will then do the remaining hardware driver installation using PnP. - Depending on the OS, it may take some time to install several drivers for keyboard and modules. Unattended driver installation is also available using above script with /s parameter: Install_Driver.cmd /s 1.2 Manual P3 Driver Installation ---------------------------------------- Alternatively you may install the drivers after plugging in the hardware. We recommend to do the automatic installation as described above. - Connect your device to an USB port of your PC. - Windows will then install keyboard drivers and several other usb devices using Plug&Play. - A "Found New Hardware Wizard" dialog box will appear. - Follow this wizard until you can select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", or "Search for the best driver..." - Browse to the (extracted) subfolder "DriverFiles" from this zip - Follow the Windows driver installation dialogues. - If the wizard pops up for other devices, repeat the steps above. Notes: Administrator privileges are required to install hardware drivers. The keyboard itself and other modules might be not available when the virtual com driver installation is pending. Standard hid devices will be installed automatically - which may take some time, depending on the OS. Default RS232 settings of OCR module P3: 19200-7E1 These settings are configured in hardware and can be different for customized solutions. For preparing HDD images to use identical driver instances for different hardware serial numbers, you may use the following reg-tweak. By doing so, you should define and always use the same USB port for connecting our MCI 111 / ML 2 device. CR100_ignoreUSB-SNo.reg 2. USAGE ===================== After finishing driver installation, open the Windows' device manager. Now you will find an additional COM device "3M CR Series Virtual COM Port". The com port number can be adapted in the properties dialogue to have a defined com port number for your application. Please refer to the PDF "Integration notes" for protocol details. 3. TESTING ===================== To test the OCR reader, run "MCI 111 Demo.exe" and swipe a OCR card or passport. This demo application requires .net Framework 2.0 or higher. It is designed for standard OCR firmware and default hardware parameters (19200-7E1). Alternatively you can always test the OCR module using some terminal program, such as Hyper Terminal, HTerm or similar. For alternative hardware parameters, just adapt the RS232 configuration of your terminal program. 4. KEYBOARD WEDGE ===================== Since 2015 we can also offer a "real" hardware keyboard wedge solution called "P5". This device sends OCR data as keystrokes and does not require installation of any special drivers. As an alternative it's possible to convert P3 VCOM data output into virtual keystrokes. For doing so a PC software solution is provided on request. Please contact support@prehkeytec.de for getting the PrehKeyTec OCRWedge. Follow the readme file there to install and configure this utility. Important: Eventually you need to adapt the INI file's PORT=X setting to the COMx from step 1 above. 5. DRIVER UNINSTALL ===================== * Log in with administrator privleges * Run the Script "Remove_Driver.cmd" (with Administrator privileges). * Follow the dialogues on screen. Unattended driver uninstall is also available using the parameter /s: Remove_Driver.cmd /s 6.
